Session 2

Recap:

Last session hundreds of thousands of people arrived in Theos' capital city for the 450th year anniversary festival marking the beginning of the Era of Divination. Among them are a great multitude of workers from across the continent, being paid handsomely to assist in the festival's operation, as well as seeking a chance to have their fates read by Theos' god-queen, Deborhai.

Among these workers are 5 peculiar travelers:

  • Alton, an eccentric man with skin as cold and icy as his demeanor
  • Jazmine, a bubbly newborn woman hailing from a tulip
  • Kynosoura, a mischievous elf woman with an imposing stature
  • Mirwis, a dragonborn paladin of few words
  • and 'Fisher Wizard', a gentle and loyal frog that'd rather be casting rods than spells

Under the guidance of the steward Undello, your unlikely group is assigned to guard the northern edges of the temple that's hidden away from visitors. You're told it's a simple job—unlikely to see any action—but of course, things go awry.
Alton, hearing a strange noise coming from a storage room, goes to investigate, but is swiftly attacked by a skeletal canine creature emitting an evil aura of purple flames from its bones.
After alerting his companions, they take to combat as Mirwis retreats to get backup. The creature's onslaught is brutal, posing serious danger to Alton—save for its relatively poor aim—but the party manages to seriously injure it. Revealing a new ability to shift into the ethereal plane, Undello concocts a plan to capture it, and with the help of Mirwis they contain the beast as backup arrives and take control of the incident.
While the temple staff sorts things out, your party's brought to the barracks to rest, and are soon commended for your work and told you shall be rewarded with fate readings by the one and only Deborhai. As you enter the throne room the queen greets you all and apologizes for her carelessness in overlooking the beast's arrival (as her great perception of fate should have been able to see the incident in advance). She promptly gets to reading your fates, starting with Wizard Fisher. She rises from her throne, undoes her blindfold, and opens her deep cosmic blue eyes...only to suddenly vomit and crumple to the floor choking.
The royal guards spring into action, tackling the party members to the floor, restraining them, and then transporting them to the temple's dungeon for holding. Later, Deborhai returns to you all downstairs—accompanied by the Arch from earlier. She explains that fates are fixed, but when she gazed upon you all she saw your fates wildly shifting before her very eyes. This gave her such violent shock and motion sickness, that she collapsed to the ground from it. She continues, that this shifting of fate was something no man, beast, nor even deity is known to be capable of, and so whatever is the cause of this is of a level of danger previously unknown to the world. Finally, she tells you that they're preparing rooms for you for the night, and that more will be revealed to you in the morning, once they hopefully know more too.

Session #2

Narrate that they've been released from jail and they now have rooms in the back of the temple to stay the night in.
Exposition:

  • "As the sun had finally fallen below the horizon, staff began to arrive and lead you each to your rooms for the night."

The next morning they meet the queen, her Archs, as well as a few others in the dining room where they explain the situation at hand and what they know (analyzed the beast and whatnot)
Characters Present:

  • Deborhai
  • West Arch
  • East Arch
  • Rep of Oghma
  • Rep of Mystra
  • Undello
  • Shirlos (Guide)

They discover that there is no record of the beast—even within Oghma's Great Library. It appears to be an undead monster, likely acting on orders, possibly sent to kill Deborhai given its entrance through the less guarded north side.

While Deborhai's guards are scouring the city, she asks that you take your party North into the forest to possibly look for signs of the perpetrators.
Exposition:

  • "I have my guards searching every inch of the city right now, but sending a force up north into the forest would be an inefficient use of resources. I've sought a retired steward of mine familiar with the area to help you in navigating. Engage if you believe yourself capable of succeeding, but otherwise report back to my court and we will send our full force to squash there perpetrators."

Send them off up North into the city with a royal escort, and somehow have them encounter the cult.
Exposition:

Return word back to the God-Queen and get a new assignment as she takes care of business on her end.
Exposition:

To Do:

  • Name more countries
  • Name the Archs of Deborhai
  • Flesh out capital city and flesh out whichever place you next want them to encounter
  • BALANCE THE ENCOUNTER WELL
  • Also probably change the max HP rule for creatures (Druids too OP)
  • Make interesting prompts but don't flesh them out until the moment
  • Narrate details more and events less
  • Use the voices of characters more
  • Make lore for the master craftsman (starting with the Wenge box Alton asked about)
    • Acadius Greysson and all that are in your Apple notes btw
  • Maybe try Foundry?
    • I'M REALLY LIKING FOUNDRY
  • Reduce their gold payment to only 2x because they broke the wall
