Session 13 (In-Person)

Recap

While taking the first pilot ride of Darius new Rat-Taxi service, the party fell into a sinkhole. Inside they uncovered the ruins of a secret stronghold belonging to a forgotten Infernal Army. Inside they found a scene of hopelessness, betrayal, murder, and mystery. Three generals entombed in what they called the "Vessels of Glasya", and only two corpses (save for the upper half of a skull pierced through the ceiling of the dungeon's treasure room).

After fooling the strange Troll-Ogre creature with comically long arms, the party escapes the ruins with new treasures:

  • Guide Rings of the Pact Keeper for Fisher Wizard
  • An Ear Cuff of Mind Shielding for Mirdis
  • A Clawed Hairpin for Kynosoura
  • The Rhythm Maker's Bongos for Ambrosia
  • And a Pot of Awakening for Jazmine
  • As well as a Ring of Jumping and a mysterious Silver Amulet that none of you can immediately decipher as to what its enchantments are.

Darius crawls onto his sheet of wood torn from the broken sleigh, and starts his return back to Cantus. Probably for medical aid or to alert the authorities about the sinkhole—he never said. And so there you stand next to the sinkhole—damp from the light drizzle still coming down, and exhausted from all that's transpired so quickly today. After all, just this same morning you were attacked by the mysterious cultists on your way out of Cantus. The one seemingly in charge of the ambush—Anwir—seemed to follow the same path that you're on now headed to Herriston. If you push forward you could probably make it by nightfall, but you could also suffer another attack from this Anwir and his acolytes. What do you say?

Intro to Herriston

It's the largest town you've been to yet—of course ignoring the capital of Theos. Before you even officially get to the town you can already see signs of permanent settlements. The trees either side of the path give way to clearing; there are vast plots of farmland—fields of stripped pea plants, yet to be tilled back into the earth, bountiful swaths of carrot fields, pumpkins, and the unmistakable smell of cabbage plants and beets. Further in you find livestock. Cows, small herds of sheep, and most prominently pigs—of which there are seemingly hundreds of massive hogs sprawled out on their sides sleeping under the moonlight.

At first all you see are unmistakably residential houses—likely the homes of the farmers and farmhands, a few barns and tool sheds. Further down you finally see the sign:
"Welcome To Herriston: History Awaits You"

The welcome sign is on a large brick wall about 10 feet tall and 12 feet wide, with some flowering bushes planted around its base. There's a smaller placard a bit behind it, sort of like you'd see on a hiking trail. It's pretty beat up—it's obviously been there for a while—and it says "MUST SEE SPOTS IN HERRISTON!". Below it there's a few columns of metallic strips with the names of locations on it. There's some businesses like "Quag Danog's Slog-hog Krog" and "Smith Black's" as well as natural features like "The Gilded Falls".
